Background of the Study
Mohammed Musa Bello, as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has been responsible for implementing key policies aimed at improving urban living standards in the FCT, including sanitation. One of his key focus areas has been enhancing cleanliness and waste management within the Federal Capital Territory, a region that faces urbanization challenges, including poor waste disposal practices, sanitation-related health hazards, and environmental degradation. Abaji, located within the FCT, is no exception to these challenges, with issues such as inadequate waste disposal systems, poor public awareness of sanitation practices, and the prevalence of open defecation in certain areas.

Bello’s sanitation policies, such as waste management improvements, public sanitation awareness programs, and the promotion of waste recycling, are designed to address these concerns. The study will explore the effectiveness of these policies in Abaji, FCT, with a focus on their impact on health outcomes, community engagement in sanitation practices, and the overall quality of the urban environment.

Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts by the Federal Government through Mohammed Musa Bello’s administration to improve sanitation in the FCT, Abaji still faces challenges related to waste management, public hygiene, and environmental cleanliness. The lack of effective sanitation systems has contributed to health issues, including diseases related to poor waste disposal and environmental pollution. This study will evaluate the extent to which Bello’s sanitation policies have addressed these issues and assess whether the implementation of these policies has led to measurable improvements in sanitation practices and public health in Abaji.
